Premiership action resumes

Salum Madadi.

The sixth round of the Mainland premier soccer league resumes with newly promoted teams of African Lyon and Manyema Rangers locking horns at the Uhuru Stadium this afternoon.

Eighth placed in the standings ladder Manyema Rangers have so far collected six points the same as Majimaji and Moro United ahead of the sixth round fixtures.

The all Dar es Salaam derby is worth to watch as African Lyon have just started the charge after lackluster show.

While Manyema have notched two wins and lost three matches, African Lyon pulled their stunning 6-1league win over bottom placed Toto Africa over the weekend.

The win saw them leapfrogging to float in the standings safe horizon with four points and superior goal aggregates over Prisons FC whom they share four points from as many league appearances.

A win for Manyema would elevate them into the posh zone of the league while African Lyon are set to move into the middle table position should the outcome of the match be in their favour.

Perhaps what is more interesting in today’s match is how the new changes made by the African Lyon’s management would be effective following the weekend’s astounding results that shocked almost every soccer fan who follows the Mainland league.

Two most experienced coaches are meeting in the match billed to be full of thriller, Salum Madadi for African Lyon and Abdallah Kibaden for Manyema Rangers.

Either side would like to post a win in a bid to move out of the relegation pool currently occupied by Prisons FC and the lakeside boys of Toto Africa from Mwanza.

Fans are still puzzled by African Lyon’s sudden change of performance and whether this is to last or was just a fluke is what the soccer pundits would keep spectators spellbound throughout the match.

The two teams clashing today will have almost ten days to recapitulate when they will be back for their seventh round fixtures at the same venue.

While Manyema host Tanzania Prisons on October 10, African Lyon will be away to pace makers Simba a day after.

The sixth round matches continue on this weekend with four matches to be played on Saturday and the final one on Sunday.

Saturday will be the most hectic day in the premiership as stalwarts Simba host Moro United in Dar es Salaam while title holders Young Africans will be away to Kagera Sugar at the Kaitaba Stadium in the west lake city of Bukoba.

For the last 20 years I have been working as a football pundit. This experience has provided me with a very useful insight into football and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics and I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany .....
