The Tanzania Football Federation’s committee for players’ rights, legal and ethics has eventually bowed to Simba demands with regard to inclusion of their new arrival Gervais Kago in Community Shield match against rivals Young Africans at the National Stadium today.
While preparations for the match were almost complete, the uncertainty of the match had engulfed the football fraternity and threatened ticket sales.
Simba were barred from using the player in today’s tie on the grounds of using an old transfer system instead of the FIFA approved one.
Simba had used the International Transfer Certificate, ITC, which is being phased out and the TFF had insisted on the deployment of the Transfer Match Systems, TMS.
Simba chairman Ismail Aden Rage had threatened a no show in today’s match to protest TFF’s demand on the transfer system used to recruit Kago.
According to a press release availed to The Guardian yesterday, the chairman of the players’ legal, ethics and rights Alex Mgongolwa announced Kago’s release to please Simba and the match to go ahead.
Mgongolwa unveiled some reasons that led to his committee bow to Simba’s demand and release the player.
Among all, he said the match is important to generate funds for the community and curtain raiser of the Mainland premiership season that kicks off on Saturday.
The chairman goes on to say that Simba have shown a strong intention to recruit the player.
“As long as Simba has contracted Kago as a professional player then a TMS is imperative according to FIFA’s rules and regulations governing transfer of players under section 2(2),” said part of the statement.
However, due to technical drawbacks the TMS is currently inapplicable in the Central African Republic and ITC is the only available option for any club wishing to recruit a soccer player from the country.
Following the release of Kago, Simba would field their team against Yanga.
Meanwhile, the no show threat has now been shifted to Yanga as they claim a total of 18.5 million shillings in arrears from the Tanzania Football Federation.
Yanga need the sum to cover the best goalkeeping prize during the previous season and the balance goes to other demands.
The team officials said they need the payment by 11:00 hours this morning; otherwise they won’t field a team later this evening.
The shifting of uncertainty might possibly result in poor turn up of spectators should all the teams decide to play the match.
