TAVA organises volleyball course for juniors

A volleyball course for young players dubbed ‘Volleyball Corporation Programme’ is scheduled to run from 28 this month to July 6, it has been confirmed. The Chairman of Tanzania Volleyball Association (TAVA), Augustino Agapa, yesterday told the ‘Daily News’ by phone from Tanga that the course is for players aged 18-21 years.

Agapa said players will be taught how to play the game and other technical aspects involved in the game of Volleyball. “The game of volleyball is not known country wide but I hope this course will stimulate the spirit of playing among the youths and try to spread the game in different parts of the country,” opined Agapa.

Agapa added that the course targets people who stay in and around Dar es Salaam city but next year it will be conducted in other regions. “It is hard for us to invite people from Mwanza, Arusha and other regions because it is expensive but people in Dar es Salaam will come in the morning and evening go back home,” said Agapa.

The course which is sponsored by World Volley Ball Association (FIVB) will be facilitated by Zohair Ammar from Egypt. Each year FIVB organises different courses to up lift the level of volleyball world wide. TAVA has invited Megereza, Jeshi Stars, Future, Tanga and some teams from Zanzibar. Meanwhile, Inter Secondary Schools Competition (UMISETA) kicked off in Tanga yesterday. The games which are scheduled to end on Sunday will feature basketball, Volleyball, netball and football.

For the last 20 years I have been working as a football pundit. This experience has provided me with a very useful insight into football and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics and I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany .....

  1. Iam very happy to hear Tava are going to run a Volleyball coaching course for youth players in Tanzania. This is a very good move towards the development of sports in Tanzania. My main concern is the number of tournaments we have to support this programme. We used to have Bonite Cup, Klm Cup, Muungano Cup and many other tournaments which were contributing to the selection of players. I believe that unless TAVA gets government support to assist in securing sponsorship for new or revived old tournaments all this effort will fail.
