TANZANIANS QUALIFY AS FIVB INTERNATIONAL REFEREES

At last after 40 years of volleyball in Tanzania we managed to get another two International referees.

The referees Alfred Salengia and Ms Agapa were recently decorated at the FIVB Development center Khartoum Sudan after a five day course held from September 2 to 6  2012.

The referees are part of the five year development plan of Tanzania Volleyball Association TAVA .

In the early 90s Muharam Mchume attended a week long International Referees course in Lagos Nigeria .The course held at the Development Center Surulele in Lagos also saw him being decorated as International Referees.

Mchume managed to officiate few International games including Africa Club Championship in Nairobi in the mid nineteens.

However , more than 120 local national referees are expected to be made before the year 2017 in order to have more officials with high knowledge of this fast moving sports .

Tanzania is currently working very closely with FIVB Development Program in order to reach to our desired goals.

TAVA hopes this is the beginning of the long overdue successes in the volleyball development in the country. In other words the light is at last being seen in the long long tunnel

I have been involved with sports in Tanzania as a Volleyball Coach for many years—and was a Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) leader. I studied sports management at Leipzig University in Germany and understand the science behind sports. That led me to work as a football pundit, with the BBC ( Swahili service) in London. That experience and exposure took me to covering the 2010, World Cup in South Africa. This provided me with a great insight into international level football commentary and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics.I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, France, Kenya etc, and visited almost all of the key football stadiums across United Kingdom, and Europe.
