Zanzibar Football Association is on the brink of losing status as host of this year’s edition of Kagame Cup championship should it not keep its house in order.
The secretary general of the Council of East and central African Football Associations, Nicholas Musonye, warned ZFA to be careful and iron out their differences ahead of hosting the regional club championship.
The championship is scheduled to be held in May as Zanzibar was awarded hosting status during CECAFA’s general assembly held in Dar es Salaam last month.
Zanzibar hosted the championship for the last time nine years ago and Rwanda’s APR are holders who deposed Atraco when the event was staged in Kigali last year.
Musonye, who was speaking through a telephone call from Cairo, said he wishes ZFA a good election to keep the regional members in harmony.
He never mentioned the next host to replace Zanzibar as he still gives Isles the benefit of doubt.
ZFA election that was held in Pemba on December 31 has been embroiled with massive controversies as incumbent Ali Ferej Tamim has been disqualified due to irregularities.
Close to twelve teams are expected to compete in the championship that has been in existence since 1974.
Meanwhile, preparations of the CECAFA U-17 soccer championship to be held in Nairobi next month are talking a good shape.
