Zanzibar to send three athletes to Brazil

Zanzibar Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) will send three runners in a half marathon to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on December 28.

ZAAA secretary general Khamis Gulam said yesterday that runners from 30 nations had confirmed to take part in the race recognised by the world governing body, IAAF.

He named the athletes as Sarah Ramadhani, Abubakar Said and Marco Joseph.

He said Marco qualified for the race after finishing sixth in a race held in Nigeria while Sarah qualified after winning a race in Kampala, Uganda. However, he did not say the qualification of Said.

Gulam said the winner of the inaugural Rio de Janeiro race would be awarded a car.
