Yanga hammered Etoile d`Or Mirontsy of Comoro 8-1 in an African Champions League first round, first leg match played at Dar es Salaam`s National Stadium yesterday.
Kenyan striker Boniface Ambani scored the first goal for the home side in the second minute when he headed home a Shadrack Nsajigwa cross.
The visitors levelled in the 20th minute through Aboubakar Ali who beat Yanga defence before he shot the ball past custodian Juma Kaseja.
Jerry Tegete used a Nurdin Bakari pass to register the second in the 54th before Ambani added the third through a penalty in the 70th.
Referee awarded the penalty to the Mainland champions when one of the visitors� defenders roughed Mrisho Ngasa in the danger zone.
Wisdom Ndlovu later registered the fourth goal in the 74th when he connected home Abdi Kassim�s corner-kick.
Tegete scored the fifth goal in the 76th, Ambani sixth in the 79th, Mrisho Ngasa seventh in the 81st and the last goal by Ambani again in the 85th. Both teams played 4-4-2.
Yanga coach Dusan Kondic praised his team for the massive defeat.
“They have played the way I taught them. I used the first half to study them before I made the changes,“ the Serbian tactician said.
Meanwhile, Tanzania representatives in the Tanzania Prisons host Khalij Sert of Libya in a Confederation Cup first round, first leg match at the National stadium in Dar es Salaam today.
Prisons head coach Mshindo Msola said his team would need to win by a large margin for them to be in a better place of advancing when they will meet in the return leg tie after two weeks.
“Our team is formed by many new faces but this can not stop us from beating them. The team have been catching up gradually with my teaching. In fact, they are good,� Msola said. “I am happy that my players are young and all of them are educated enough to understand my coaching,� the coach boasted.
