National volleyball team is gearing up for the East and Central African championship to be staged in Kigali later in October.
The vice-chairman of the East and Central African Volleyball Organisation (ECAVCO), Augustine Agapa, said members of the team would be announced after a special session of the TAVA executive committee. He did not unveil when the special session will be held.
Agapa said players making the team would be selected on the basis of merit they exhibited during the recently held regional tournament in Moshi.
Tanzania Volleyball Association, TAVA, would approve the names of selected players before releasing to the public.
Agapa said TAVA has also embarked on staging regional championship in the country. He blamed most of the regional volleyball authorities for poor promotional programmes that has to a great extent backpedaled the game’s progress.
After the Kigali event, Tanzania would play host to next year’s edition scheduled to be staged in September at a venue to be mentioned later by the organisers.
Meanwhile, the minister for Science and Technology, Peter Msolla, has urged the Boxing federation of Tanzania (BFT) to make full use of the Cuban coach Geovanis Hurtado in the promotion of boxing in the country.
Msola made the announcement at the end of the national amateur boxing championship staged in Dar es Salaam for the past two weeks.
He urged the boxing officials to restore pride which has been lost out of lackluster performance.
