Twiga Stars force 2-2 draw against Banyana Banyana

 

Tanzania national women soccer team, Twiga Stars, forced a 2-2 draw against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in their second All Africa Games Group D match played at the Machava Stadium in Maputo, Mozambique yesterday.

Banyana Banyana were the first to score before Twiga Stars equalized through their talismanic striker Mwanahamisi Shuruwa in the 25th minute, according to Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) information officer, Boniface Wambura.

After interval, Banyana Banyana came out fighting and scored their second goal but Zena Hamis came to the rescue of Twiga Stars in the 60th to register the equalizer.

Twiga Stars, making debut appearance at the Games in a new wave of significant development for the Tanzania women soccer, have been performing well recently in their competitions and friendly matches.

In their first group match on Monday, Twiga Stars went down 2-1 to Ghana’s Black Princesses in a tough match staged in Maputo.

Coach Boniface Mkwasa claimed poor marking and lack of experience saw Twiga Stars concede the killer goal two minutes after ¡Shuruwa’s equalizer to lose all the three points allotted to the game.

Twiga Stars play their final group stage game on Sunday against Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe were thrashed by 4-1 goals by Banyana Banyana in their opening group match in Maputo.
