TFF to conduct referees seminar

Sunday Kayuni

Physical fitness seminar for referees and other officials will be conducted by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) ahead of next Premier League season.

The body’s technical director, Sunday Kayuni, said the seminar would be conducted in two groups.

The first will be for referees responsible to officiate Premier League and the other for first division league.

The referees have been divided into three groups, A, B and C. Group C referees are to start the seminar from July 13 to July 16 in three zones, namely Dodoma, Songea and Mwanza.

The Songea zone would cater for referees from Songea, Lindi, Mtwara, Rukwa, Mbeya and Iringa.

The Dodoma zone is for referees from Dodoma, Singida, Morogoro, Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Manyara, Coast and Dar es Salaam.

Referees from Mwanza, Kigoma, Tabora, Shinyanga, Kagera and Mara are to attend the seminar at Mwanza centre.

Group A and B referees have their seminar starting for three days from July 27 in Mwanza and Dar es Salaam centres.

The Dar es Salaam centre will take care for referees from Dar es Salaam, Songea, Lindi, Mtwara, Rukwa, Mbeya, Iringa, Morogoro, Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Arusha and Coast region.

Kayuni, who came under fire for fumbling Taifa Cup scores’ statistics last month, said the objective of the seminar is to impart referees with physical fitness and remind them of the soccer rules and regulations.

He said the move has been aimed at minimising fans’ complaints on the poor standard of referees in the country during league matches.

Kayuni said TFF will certainly offload those referees who would fail to meet the seminar’s expectations.
