Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) will use about 300m/- to sponsor this year`s Tusker Challenge Cup set to kick off from December 15-27 at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
TBL Marketing Manager David Minja said yesterday that his firm had decided to increase the sponsorship package with the aim of making the championship be staged more successful.
This is the first time we are allocating 300m/- for this tourney since it was introduced six years ago, he said.
He said 40m/- would be awarded to winners while 20m/- and 10m/- would be taken by second and third finishers, respectively. He said the best scorer and best team would each be awarded 2m/-.
Each and every player who will feature in the championship will be given an allowance of 10,000/- per day while 20,000/- will be paid to officials.
The marketing manager also said that the money would be used to pay for the accommodation of the teams, transports and meals.
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Secretary-General, Frederick Mwakalebela, said the championship would attract top four local teams and two foreign teams.
Local teams are Mainland champions Yanga, Simba, Prisons and Mtibwa Sugar. Other two team will came from Kenya, Uganda or Rwanda, he said.
Yanga won the title last year when Simba boycotted the tournament which was staged in Mwanza.
Simba who won the past titles boycotted the event claiming that 20m/- which was set as a prize for the winners was very small.
