Taifa Stars residential date set for february 2

The national soccer team, Taifa Stars, will start their residential training camp on February 2 in Dar es Salaam.

The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Secretary-General, Frederick Mwakalebela, said yesterday that the team would camp to prepare for a friendly match set for February 6 in Dar es Salaam with a team yet to be known.

“February 6 will be a Fifa date, so we have to organise an international friendly match for Taifa Stars to mark this day,“ he said.

Mwakalebela said TFF had already written to different countries inviting them to play Stars.

“None of the countries has replied so far. We are waiting for coach Marcio Maximo to come back so that we see what to do,“ Mwakalebela said.

Maximo is expected to return in the city this afternoon ready to start preparing the team for the World Cup 2010 qualifiers.

Maximo went on leave in December after his team was eliminated in the East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup.
Stars are grouped together with Cameroon, Mauritius and Cape Verde in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

I have been involved with sports in Tanzania as a Volleyball Coach for many years—and was a Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) leader. I studied sports management at Leipzig University in Germany and understand the science behind sports. That led me to work as a football pundit, with the BBC ( Swahili service) in London. That experience and exposure took me to covering the 2010, World Cup in South Africa. This provided me with a great insight into international level football commentary and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics.I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, France, Kenya etc, and visited almost all of the key football stadiums across United Kingdom, and Europe.
