Information, Culture and Sports deputy minister Joel Bendera has said he was impressed by the performance of Taifa Stars and the team have now improved a lot.
The minister gave out the remarks after the end of Saturday`s African Nations/2010 World Cup qualifier match between Stars and Cameroon `Indomitable Lions` played at the new National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.
“The team have now started to revive the hopes of soccer fans, they have demonstrated big changes. This is what we have been longing for,“ the minister said.
Bendera hailed the team`s coach Brazilian Marcio Maximo for up -lifting the team`s performance, urging him to continue with his training programme.
“Forcing a barren draw with a top team like Cameroon is a good omen that we have improved. What is needed is more training and regulating some few remaining mistakes,“ he added.
On his side, Maximo said they will keep on training hard to make sure that they perform well in their remaining matches and so qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
“As I have been saying, changes in football do not come overnight, they take time. At least now my players have started to improve, we will train hard to advance,“ he said.
Maximo added that he will continue to sharpen his forward line and admitted that they still have little problems.
Stars have two points now and are placed third in Group A which is topped by Cameroon with six points.
Stars are expected to play away Cameroon next Saturday at the Yaounde Stadium.
