Liverpool 3-0 Newcastle

Rafael Benitez: “Three goals, three points, nothing conceded and I was able to rest key players ahead of the Champions League.

“In every way it was just a perfect day for us. Our confidence is growing, as is the partnership with [Steven] Gerrard and [Fernando] Torres.”

Kevin Keegan: “Our players are a tight-knit group and we all believe we have the ability and quality to stay in this division.

“We are very confident of that. You need 40 points to stay up and we need four wins to do that. We will do it.”

Blackburn 1-1 Fulham

Mark Hughes: “I don’t know why they are unhappy with our goal. Pedersen was impeded initially so you could argue it was a penalty to us.

“Morten’s just freed himself from the lad holding him and he gets a goal, credit to him.”

Roy Hodgson: “When you look at the goal, we actually did win the game. The right-back was pulled to the ground to give the player who scored the goal a free header.

“I thought the players did extremely well because that was a savage blow. We didn’t deserve to be a goal down at that time.”

Reading 1-0 Manchester City

Steve Coppell: “We have to accumulate a certain number of points, and we cannot relax in any way.

“We are all on a mission to ensure we are playing in this division again next season.”

Sven-Goran Eriksson: “I thought it should have been a penalty, maybe we should have got two. Today it is very difficult to be a referee, because you have the answer 10 or 15 seconds after it has happened, with all the video guys we have sitting close to the bench.

“But it is very easy when we can look at the replay. It would be good if the referee could do it as well.”

For the last 20 years I have been working as a football pundit. This experience has provided me with a very useful insight into football and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics and I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany .....
