There were five away victories on Sunday, the most ever on a Boxing Day and the most on a single day in the Premier League in 16 months since there were six away wins on August 15 2009.

Manchester United 2-0 Sunderland

This was Sir Alex Ferguson‘s 63rd Premier League match against one of his former players. He has won 47 and lost only five of these meetings.

Sunderland have not won in their last 18 Premier League matches against Manchester United – a club record for the longest streak without a victory against another top flight club.

Newcastle United 1-3 Manchester City

Andy Carroll scored his 11th Premier League goal of the season, and the fifth by an assist from Joey Barton.

Carlos Tevez has scored more than once in a Premier League match on 15 occasions – the same as Ruud van Nistelrooy and Paul Scholes.

Aston Villa 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

This match had exactly the same scoreline and scorers as when they met earlier this season – Tottenham winning 2-1 with Rafael van der Vaart scoring twice, and Marc Albrighton netting the only goal for Villa.

Harry Redknapp is unbeaten in his last 10 matches on Boxing Day. His only ever defeat in all 13 matches on this date was West Ham’s 1-0 defeat at Arsenal in 1998.

Fulham 1-3 West Ham United

West Ham ended their top flight club record run of 27 PL away matches without a victory.

Aaron Hughes scored his fifth league goal and his first in over six years – since he scored for Newcastle in their 2-2 home draw with Norwich in August 2004. This was Fulham-s 400th goal in the Premier League.

Blackburn 0-2 Stoke City

Stoke picked up their first ever Premier League victory in the North-West at the 19th attempt.

Blackburn remain one of only two clubs who are yet to come from behind to pick up any points – the other is Aston Villa.

Bolton Wanderers 2-0 West Bromwich Albion

West Brom have now lost all five Premier League matches they have played on Boxing Day, failing to score in the last four.

Bolton kept a clean sheet for the first time since the opening day of the season, ending a run of 17 matches without a clean sheet.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-2 Wigan Athletic

Steven Fletcher scored his fourth goal of the season. The club have lost each of the last three matches in which he has scored.

Since Tom Cleverley scored his first ever Premier League goal on November 27, only one other player has scored more goals than him – Dimitar Berbatov (7 goals) for Manchester United.
