Ngassa finally lands at Azam

Mrisho Ngassa (centre) receives jersey No. 16 from Azam FC vice president Said Mohammed in Dar es SalaaM yesterday.

Former Yanga striker Mrisho Ngassa, bought for a record-breaking Sh58m, by Azam FC, was introduced to officials of his new club in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Ngassa who also turns for the national side, Taifa Stars, was introduced alongside former JKT Ruvu goalie Jackson Chove at a short ceremony held at the team’s headquarters at Pugu Road in Dar es Salaam. By sharp contrast, however, the latter, Taifa Stars’ second goalie, pocketed a merely Sh3million for a two-year stint at the team.

Ngassa has broken the transfer record of custodian Juma Kaseja who crossed over from Simba to Yanga for Sh36 million.

Azam FC vice president Said Mohammed said they had succeeded in recruiting Ngassa after two days’ negotiations with Yanga.

“The money we have spent on recruiting him indicates that he is a good player who will make the team perform well in the league,” he said.

“I am very happy to be here. I should also thank Yanga officials for releasing me to play for Azam. This is what we call greener pastures,” the joyous Ngassa, who was given jersey No. 16, remarked.
