Motema Pembe arrive on Friday

Simba`s opponents in the CAF Confederations Cup Darling Club Motema Pembe are expected to arrive on Friday ahead of their first leg tie at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.

The former Mainland champions are in hectic moment after being sent packing out of the Champions League play-off last week.

Simba’s Ugandan coach Moses Basena, who is under six-month probation, is under pressure to prove his credentials as he leads the club into the Confederations Cup barely a fortnight after Cairo disaster.

Simba suffered a 3-0 humiliating defeat by Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca in the play-off resulting from TP Mazembe’s disqualification for fielding ineligible player.

Simba earned a place in the Confederations Cup after the Cairo loss and coach Basena is yet to end his honey moon as cumbersome assignments are still at his doorstep.

The Kinshasa football stalwarts Motema Pembe are traveling to Tanzania for the second time in three months after comprehensively ousting Zanzibar’s KMKM in the Confederation’s Cup preliminary round.

Simba have an uphill task of defeating the Democratic Republic of Congo team which sailed through after knocking out Egyptian Haras El Hodoud by 4-3 penalties in Kinshasa following a 3-3 stalemate in two legs.

Simba have set up their training base in Tanga gearing up for the Sunday clash as well as the Kagame Cup that kicks off in Dar es Salaam later this month.

DC Motema Pembe have not played against Simba in any of the CAF club events let alone a friendly.

The teams play their return leg in a week’s time as Simba would travel to Kinshasa to know their fate in terms of progression into the next stage.

After frustrating elimination from the Champions League, the newly appointed Simba coach Basena has vowed to excel and give the team’s fan a reason to cheer his arrival.

I have been involved with sports in Tanzania as a Volleyball Coach for many years—and was a Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) leader. I studied sports management at Leipzig University in Germany and understand the science behind sports. That led me to work as a football pundit, with the BBC ( Swahili service) in London. That experience and exposure took me to covering the 2010, World Cup in South Africa. This provided me with a great insight into international level football commentary and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics.I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, France, Kenya etc, and visited almost all of the key football stadiums across United Kingdom, and Europe.
