Miembeni first to qualify as Simba throw last card

Miembeni FC of Zanzibar yesterday became the first team to qualify when they hit defending champions APR of Rwanda 2-1 in the on going Kagame Cup at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The next team to qualify in the Group `C` will be known on Saturday when Yanga play Miembeni at the Main National Stadium. Yanga who drew 2-2 with APR will only need a draw to qualify.

Miembeni scored the first goal in the 42nd minute through Amri Kiemba who used a Salum Ramadhani`s pass to beat goalie Aime Ndizeye before Maulid Ibrahim added the second in the 71st minute.

Babtiste Mugiraneza headed home in the 80th to score the lone APR goal.

Meanwhile, Simba play their Group `A` second match at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam this afternoon reports Valentine Oforo.

The team trained by Jamhuri Kihwelu will need to win the match by a big margin in order to be in a better position to advance, a loss will dent their hopes.

Simba who were beaten 3-2 by Tusker of Kenya in the Group `A` face Benadir Telecom of Somalia who defeated Vitalo of Burundi 2-1.

Benadir will automatically qualify for the quarterfinals if they beat the home side.
