Maximo to unveil new Stars on January 29

Brazilian tactician Marcio Maximo will name players who will form the new Taifa Stars on January 29.

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Information Officer Florian Kaijage said yesterday the team would assemble on February 2 to prepare for the 2010 World Cup qualifying matches.

He said the team would play a friendly match against Malawi on February 6 at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam to mark the Fifa date.

Kaijage said that Malawi had already confirmed coming on the condition that TFF would pay for their return tickets, accommodation and allowances.

Taifa Stars were eliminated in the East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup last December after failing to qualify for the on going Africa Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, Fifa has appointed four Tanzanian officials to handle the Olympic Games qualifying match between South Africa and Nigeria on February 6 in Pretoria.

They are Isabellah Kapera (centre referee) while Zahara Mohamed Sumwa and Saada Hussein Tibabimale will be linesmen. Judith Gamba is reserve referee.

I have been involved with sports in Tanzania as a Volleyball Coach for many years—and was a Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) leader. I studied sports management at Leipzig University in Germany and understand the science behind sports. That led me to work as a football pundit, with the BBC ( Swahili service) in London. That experience and exposure took me to covering the 2010, World Cup in South Africa. This provided me with a great insight into international level football commentary and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics.I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, France, Kenya etc, and visited almost all of the key football stadiums across United Kingdom, and Europe.
