Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) is expected to name new coach who will lead the Mainland team (Kilimanjaro Stars) in their friendly match against Zanzibar Heroes.
The match will be held at the Amaan Stadium on January 1.
According to TFF secretary general Angetile Osiah, the new coach will replace the Kilimanjaro Stars’ head coach during the CECAFA Tusker Challenge Cup, Charles Boniface Mkwasa, who has been assigned another task of preparing the national women’s soccer team (Twiga Stars) for their African Women Championship (AWC) preliminary match against Namibia.
Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, Osiah said the Kilimanjaro Stars assistant coach, Jamhuri Kihwelu ‘Julio’, is out of the country, making it necessary for the soccer’s governing body to appoint another coach.
Osiah said the Technical Department and the Competition Directory of TFF were yesterday finalizing appointing the coach who will name his squad.
“Tomorrow (today) we will announce the name of who will coach the team,” said Osiah.
The TFF secretary general also said the national team (Taifa Stars) head coach, Jan Poulsen, is on leave but has promised that he will be in Zanzibar to watch the friendly match.
Meanwhile, Zanzibar Football Association (ZFA) spokesman Munir Zacharia yesterday said teams that will compete in Mapinduzi Cup are expected to start arriving in Zanzibar on December 31.
Teams from Mainland are defending champions Simba, Young Africans (Yanga) and Azam FC.
Simba will be in Group A together with Miembeni, KMKM and Jamhuri of Pemba.
Vodacom Premier League leaders Yanga are in Group B with Azam FC, Kikwajuni and Mafunzo.
The three teams from Mainland will use the tournament as preparations for the Premier League second round that will kick off on January 21.
Simba and Yanga will also be taking the tournament as part of their preparations for African Championship and Federation Cup organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
