Macheda is regarded as one of the most promising youngsters at United

Federico Macheda has signed a four-year deal that is set to keep him at Manchester United until June 2014.

The 18-year-old striker scored a stunning injury-time winner on his debut against Aston Villa in April.

“Everyone at the club recognises his fantastic talent – we hope to see that develop in the next years,” manager Sir Alex Ferguson told the club website.

The Italian has scored two goals in 10 United appearances but has not played in the Premier League this season.

“I am very happy to commit my future to Manchester United,” said Macheda.

“I really enjoyed myself last season when I came on and I hope to get more chances like that and contribute to the team’s success.”

Former Lazio youth team player Macheda signed professional terms with United on 22 August 2008 and rapidly progressed through the youth and reserve teams before earning his chance in the first team.

Six days after his first appearance, he came on at Sunderland and again scored the winning goal.
