Chelsea v Ipswich

Chelsea will be without Terry after the defender failed to recover from the back spasm he collected in the pre-match warm-up for the 2-1 win against Stoke last weekend. John Mikel Obi is suspended and joins Michael Essien and Joe Cole (both knee) on the sidelines. Striker Didier Drogba is also back in the squad after being dropped for their last two games against Southend and Stoke.

Ipswich right-back David Wright is expected to start after a hamstring injury. Moritz Volz is out with inflammation of his pubic bone while fellow defender Ben Thatcher should come into contention after illness. Ivan Campo is out for at least a further fortnight after tearing a calf muscle.

Top scorers: Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea) 17; Billy Clarke (Ipswich) 9

Referee: Alan Wiley (Staffordshire).

Doncaster Rovers v Aston Villa

Rovers defender James Chambers is suspended – Gareth Roberts could replace him in defence after appearing as a substitute in Rovers’ third-round replay victory over Cheltenham. Defensive duo James O’Connor and Matthew Mills (both groin) should be fit and Paul Heffernan should be in the squad after a virus.

Villa are without the suspended Ashley Young and skipper Martin Laursen is unlikely to be available as he continues to recuperate from a knee problem. John Carew (back) and Wilfred Bouma (ankle) have returned to training but will not feature.

Top scorers: Brian Stock (Doncaster) 6; Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa) 10

Referee: Mark Halsey (England).

Hartlepool v West Ham

Hartlepool hope to have Matty Robson (calf), Sam Collins (hip) and Antony Sweeney (ankle) available. Joel Porter and Michael Mackay are expected to start up front even though David Foley scored a hat-trick for the reserves in midweek, while new loan signing Liam Henderson was also on the scoresheet.

West Ham striker David Di Michele is pressing for another start after he replaced Craig Bellamy and scored last week against Fulham. Midfielder Kieron Dyer has been nursing a slight muscle strain, but could feature among the substitutes. Striker Dean Ashton (ankle) and defender Danny Gabbidon (groin) are long-term absentees.

Top scorers: Joel Porter (Hartlepool) 15; Carlton Cole (West Ham) 9

Referee: Lee Mason (Lancashire).

Hull v Millwall

On-loan striker Manucho is set to make his first start for the Tigers after featuring as a substitute in last week’s defeat by Arsenal. Defender Kamil Zayatte is available after suspension but forward Craig Fagan serves a ban and Kevin Kilbane is cup-tied. Anthony Gardner (thigh), Nick Barmby (calf) and George Boateng (knee) are out.

Millwall defender Zak Whitbread is suspended so Tony Craig will step in at centre-half. On-loan strikers Tresor Kandol and Izale McLeod are both eligible to play, winger Chris Hackett returns to the squad after three weeks out with a groin injury but midfielder Danny Spiller (hip) and full-backs Marcus Bignot and Danny Senda (both knee) remain long-term absentees.

Top scorers: Daniel Cousin & Geovanni (Hull) 6; Tresor Kandol (Millwall) 8

Referee: Stuart Attwell (Warwickshire).

Kettering v Fulham

Guy Branston is suspended for Kettering, so the captaincy therefore should shift to his defensive partner John Dempster – with Exodus Geohaghon coming into the back four. Defender Tommy Jaszczun will be pushing for a starting place after calf trouble, while midfielder Brett Solkhon could also be in contention after hamstring trouble. Jason Lee is cup-tied while fellow striker Nathan Smith (foot) remains sidelined.

Fulham are without Jimmy Bullard after the midfielder signed for Hull. Andranik Teymourian (knee) is gaining match fitness in the reserves but Diomansy Kamara (knee) remains in the treatment room.

Top scorers: Gareth Seddon (Kettering) 14; Andrew Johnson (Fulham) 6

Referee: Mike Riley (Yorkshire).

Man Utd v Tottenham

Manchester United will be without 10 senior first-team squad players for the match after a costly Carling Cup outing against Derby in midweek. Anderson and Jonny Evans will be missing for three weeks with ankle injuries, while Nani (groin) is also absent. Park Ji-sung (hamstring) will not figure either and Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs are also slight doubts.

On-loan striker Fraizer Campbell is ineligible to play against parent club United. Spurs also have a host of injury problems ahead of the fourth-round tie, with Heurelho Gomes (thigh), Vedran Corluka (thigh), Ledley King (hamstring), Jermaine Jenas (calf), Jamie O’Hara (hip), Aaron Lennon (groin) and Darren Bent (groin) set to miss out. Michael Dawson and Jonathan Woodgate are also doubtful with knocks, while Alan Hutton (foot) is a long-term absentee. Luka Modric (back/hamstring) will require a late test.

Top scorers: Wayne Rooney (Man Utd) 12; Roman Pavlyuchenko (Tottenham) 13

Referee: Peter Walton (Northamptonshire).

Portsmouth v Swansea

Jermaine Pennant is set for his Portsmouth debut but midfielder Niko Kranjcar is out with a torn groin muscle. Richard Hughes’ return to fitness after a knee injury eases the situation for manager Tony Adams but Papa Bouba Diop is still missing with a knee injury. There are doubts over David James despite Adams’ contention that the England goalkeeper will play through the pain barrier aided by injections in a troublesome knee.

Swansea hope Tom Butler’s hip injury clears in time, while fellow midfielder Leon Britton is available after a ban. On-loan duo Nathan Dyer and Dimitrios Konstantopoulos are eligible to play but Matt Collins (ankle) is out and Marcos Painter and Ferrie Bodde (both cruciate knee ligament) are out for the season.

Top scorers: Peter Crouch (Portsmouth) 13; Jason Scotland (Swansea) 12

Referee: Andre Marriner.

Sheff Utd v Charlton

Midfielder Stephen Quinn is suspended for United. Blades manager Kevin Blackwell made several changes for his side’s comfortable third-round win at Leyton Orient and could be tempted to do so again. Kyle Naughton could switch to midfield as cover for Quinn, with Kyle Walker a possible candidate for full-back.

Graeme Murty, Tom Soares and Matthew Spring are ineligible for Charlton. Murty and fellow loanee Soares are cup-tied and Spring is unavailable due to an agreement struck with the Blades when the midfielder ended his loan spell at Bramall Lane in order to join Charlton from Luton. Boss Phil Parkinson may draft in youngsters such as Josh Wright and Scott Wagstaff, while Deon Burton and Darren Ambrose are available.

Top scorers: Stephen Quinn (Sheff Utd) 7; Andy Gray (Charlton) 7

Referee: Tony Bates (Staffordshire).

Sunderland v Blackburn

Sunderland will be without Teemu Tainio who is suspended, while Steed Malbranque returns from a ban, but Kieran Richardson will again miss out with an ankle injury. Defender Nyron Nosworthy could be sidelined for up to six weeks with a hamstring tear, and Paul McShane is cup-tied after playing in the competition during his spell on loan at Hull. Danny Collins should be available after recovering from concussion and George McCartney could make the bench for the first time since November after undergoing foot surgery.

Roque Santa Cruz will start his first game for Blackburn for six weeks. Fellow strikers Jason Roberts (knee) and Matt Derbyshire (groin) are ruled out. Allardyce is also without three other players in midfielders David Dunn (Achilles) and Keith Treacy (knee), along with centre-back Andre Ooijer (groin). French defender Gael Givet, signed on loan from Marseille earlier this month, is in line to make his debut.

Top scorers: Djibril Cisse (Sunderland) 9; Benni McCarthy (Blackburn) 8

Referee: Lee Probert (Wiltshire).

Torquay v Coventry

Gulls boss Paul Buckle is hoping to name an unchanged side, with winger Mustapha Carayol battling to return after a groin injury.

Chris Coleman’s Coventry squad will be at full stretch after the sale of influential midfielder Jay Tabb. Scott Dann (shoulder), Isaac Osbourne (ankle), Elliott Ward (knee) and Marcus Hall (nose) remain sidelined with their respective injuries. Michael Mifsud is likely to be employed in midfield once again after the club resisted the chance to sell him this week, while Kevin Thornton or Adam Walker could come in to fill the void left by Tabb’s departure.

Top scorers: Tim Sills (Torquay) 15; Clinton Morrison (Coventry) 10

Referee: Kevin Friend (Leicestershire).

Watford v Crystal Palace

Hornets manager Brendan Rodgers will have goalscoring midfielder John-Joe O’Toole back after suspension. Striker Grzegorz Rasiak started against the Blades in place of Tamas Priskin but failed to hit the target so Rodgers may change things around. Loanees Gavin Hoyte, Jack Cork and Liam Bridcutt are all available after being given permission to play in the competition by respective parent clubs Arsenal and Chelsea.

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock is considering tinkering with his defence after being critical of centre-halves Matt Lawrence and Jose Fonte after last weekend’s 4-1 defeat at home to Ipswich, and may move Clint Hill into the middle and bring Danny Butterfield in at left-back. Warnock will be without midfielder Ben Watson, who is on the verge of leaving Selhurst Park. Defender Paddy McCarthy is recovering from a shoulder operation.

Top scorers: Tommy Smith (Watford) 12; Shefki Kuqi (Crystal Palace) 6

Referee: Michael Oliver (Northumberland).

West Brom v Burnley

West Brom striker Roman Bednar will return after suspension but manager Tony Mowbray has a host of injury worries with defenders Jonas Olsson, Abdoulaye Meite, Leon Barnett and midfielder James Morrison on the injury list along with long-term casualties Ishmael Miller and Neil Clement. Right-back Gianni Zuiverloon is back in training but striker Luke Moore is expected to be available following a hamstring injury.

Burnley manager Owen Coyle will have skipper Steven Caldwell and striker Steve Thompson available. Defender Caldwell served a one-match ban during Wednesday’s Carling Cup semi-final encounter with Tottenham while Thompson was cup-tied having played for Cardiff in an earlier round of that competition. Stephen Jordan is an injury doubt so Christian Kalvenes could replace him in the starting line-up.

Top scorers: Craig Beattie & Roman Bednar (West Brom) 6; Martin Paterson (Burnley) 15

Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral).

Wolves v Middlesbrough

Wolves defender Richard Stearman will be suspended and Nigel Quashie is ineligible –

but fellow loan signing Kyel Reid will be able to feature. Manager Mick McCarthy must decide whether to risk Stephen Ward (shoulder), while goalkeeper Carl Ikeme is also struggling with a back problem.

Middlesbrough skipper Emanuel Pogatetz (hamstring) and midfielder Julio Arca (knee) are battling against the injuries which kept them out of last weekend’s 3-0 Barclays Premier League defeat at West Brom. Didier Digard begins a three-match ban for his sending-off at the Hawthorns, while teenage midfielder Josh Walker and striker Jeremie Aliadiere (both ankle) remain on the long-term casualty list. Marlon King’s loan deal is yet to be finalised – and he would have been cup-tied anyway.

Top scorers: Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (Wolves) 16; Afonso Alves (Middlesbrough) 6

Referee: Rob Styles (Hampshire).

Sunday, January 25

Cardiff v Arsenal

Cardiff are expected to have a fully-fit squad. Striker Jay Bothroyd was a doubt heading into last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Birmingham with food poisoning, while Peter Whittingham pulled his hamstring and fellow midfielder Paul Parry also took a knock during the game. Manager Dave Jones will keep an eye on Whittingham ahead of the tie but all three should feature.

Arsenal will be without suspended full-back Gael Clichy but defender William Gallas is fit again following a hamstring problem. Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski will again get a chance to impress and midfielder Aaron Ramsey is set to face his former club. Mikael Silvestre (thigh), Theo Walcott (shoulder), captain Cesc Fabregas (knee) and Tomas Rosicky (hamstring tendon) remain sidelined, while striker Eduardo continues to build up his match fitness.

Top scorers: Ross McCormack (Cardiff) 15; Emmanuel Adebayor & Robin Van Persie (Arsenal) 12

Referee: Martin Atkinson.

Liverpool v Everton

Steven Gerrard trained on Friday after his court appearance and is expected to lead the side at Anfield. Manager Rafael Benitez is likely to recall Javier Mascherano to midfield after the Argentinian was consigned to the bench for the 1-1 league draw between the sides. Goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri and full-back Andrea Dossena could be involved. Also in the frame are Ryan Babel, Yossi Benayoun and Lucas while Daniel Agger (calf) and Alvaro Arbeloa (hamstring) will have late fitness tests.

Toffees defender Joseph Yobo could return to the squad having missed the last four matches with a hamstring injury, but will probably have to settle for a place on the bench. Key midfielder Marouane Fellaini serves the second match of a two-game ban.

Top scorers: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) 14; Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill & Ayegbeni Yakubu (Everton) 5

Referee: Steve Bennett (Kent).
