Tanzania Handball Association (TAHA) is expecting to hold its general elections in Dodoma on June 26, the body’s assistant secretary, Nicholaus Mihayo, confirmed yesterday.
Mihayo said aspirants for various posts in the association should collect forms from the National Sports Council at the end of the month.
Eligible candidates for the elections are those people who have attained at least ordinary secondary level of education, well documented leadership experience and one with strong commitments to take leadership role.
“We need leaders with the said qualifications as we are setting a new benchmark or successful handball,” said Mihayo.
Posts to be aspired for are chairman, vice-chairman, secretary general and assistant, treasurer and three members of technical committee.
Other posts to be competed for include the chairman of technical committee, health commissioner, chairman for beach hockey and chairman for referees committee.
The new office bearers would lead the body for a four-year tenure. Among the leaders who have their office tenure coming to an end are chairman Peter Mataka and his vice-chairman Cecilius Fusi, secretary general Sudi Omary and his assistant, Nicholaus Mihayo.
Meanwhile, the Union handball club championships will be held in Zanzibar next month.
Mihayo said the championships will be competed by top placed teams in both Mainland and Zanzibar leagues. He did not mention the number of the teams for the competition.
