Dar es salaam city is expected to host a charity half marathon whose proceeds would cater for the construction of children’s wards of the Chalinze Hospital at a date to be announced later.
The non-governmental Hope Children Foundation’s official Anthony Kasenga, who is organising the event, said the event projects to raise over 200m/- to be channelled to the hospital for the construction of the wards and meet other expenses for medical equipment.
Kasenga said his NGO has come into the decision to raise funds on the grounds of respecting children’s rights and help the Chalinze community.
“We urge all athletes and other stakeholders to turn out in big numbers and support us on the bonafide mission to meet the target for community assistance. We are strongly in need to raise funds and facilitate the construction of the children’s ward and acquisition of medical equipment,” he said.
The secretary general of Athletics Tanzania, Suleiman Nyambui, said the charity half marathon has been officially sanctioned to go-ahead.
Nyambui said the entry fee to compete in the marathon has been set up at 5,000/- and the winner’s prize money will be 250,000/-.
There will be various cash prizes for the first twenty finishers. The twentieth marathoner will be eligible to earn 50,000/- each.
