Danish coach to replace Maximo

Former Zambian national soccer team coach Danish Poulsen Rauld is a possible choice to replace Brazilian Marcio Maximo whose contract comes to an end next month.

Reports from impeccable sources within the Tanzania Football Federation, has it that the Danish coach is likely to beat the rest of the four others who penetrated the filter out of more than 50 who applied for the post.

An official from TFF who pleaded for anonymity said the body has almost come to the end of the selection process that has been conducted behind closed doors.

Among the five coaches who visited Dar es Salaam last month to attend an interview, it was the Danish who was the most impressive to convince the TFF selection panel.

The coach used to train the Zambian team with Patrick Phiri as his assistant during the early years of the last decade.

The Danish will be tested to the limits during this year’s edition of East African Challenge Cup championship, possibly to be held in Tanzania.

He also has a huge burden of crossing the African Nations Cup 2012 qualifiers against teams to be determined later by CAF’s re-draw.

Brazilian Maximo who took over Stars in mid 2006 is ending his four years without a silverware collection, neither Nations or World Cup qualifier let alone Challenge Cup.

Maximo who is in the State House payroll, has a last assignment to prove his worth before soccer pundits in a return leg match of the CHAN qualifiers against Rwanda next month in Kigali.

Despite repeated calls by the public to step down, Maximo has been adamant to glue to the post todate.
