Confident Simba face Lengthens

The Vodacom Mainland League Champions, Simba SC, host Lengthens FC of Zimbabwe in a Confederation Cup, return leg match at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam this afternoon.

The match is expected to be easy for the team trained by Zambian Patrick Phiri considering that they won 3-0 in the away first leg tie played in Zimbabwe’s Harare two weeks ago.

The Msimbazi street-based outfit will need a draw to book a place in the next stage of the second continental club competition.

The Zimbabwean side, popular as `Happy People’, will need to win 4-0 for them to progress.

Coach Phiri said yesterday that he would field a very strong side as Lengthens were not a team to underrate.

“Lengthens are good, and so we have to field a very strong team,” Phiri said, adding that the team would likely miss the services of central defender Kelvin Yondani and David Naftali (midfielder) who are nursing injuries they sustained during training.

Three goals were scored by Mohamed Kijuso, Mohamed Banka and Musa Hassan Mgosi who are expected to be in action again today.

Lengthens coach Mandla Masuku still remained optimistic despite losing the first leg at Rufaro Stadium, claiming that his side can overturn the tables in Tanzania.

“If they can score three goals away from home, we can also do the same,” Masuku was quoted saying, adding: “We will try and overturn the tables in Tanzania.”

Coach Lengthens have been camping in South Africa while Simba have been camping in Zanzibar. Zimbabweans arrived late yesterday.
