Officials of the Mainland top rivals Simba and Young Africans officials have submitted requests to the Government through the soccer federation to use the 60,000-seater National Stadium for the new premiership season kicking off next month.
The requests have come in a wake of the latest league preparations development by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) that requires all top flight sides to declare their home grounds ahead of the seasonal kick off.
Yanga and Simba are some of the teams which until Tuesday had not made public their home venues for the new premiership season.
Information officer for Simba and Yanga, Ezekiel Kamwaga and Louis Sendeu, respectively, have confirmed to have submitted applications for using the biggest stadium in the country.
Simba’s information officer Kamwaga said beside submitting their request to use the stadium, additional request for reduction of gate collection cuts will also been tabled.
He said Simba would apply to the stadium owners (The Government through the Ministry of information, Youth and Sports) for a reduced cut down from the prevailing 20 per cent to ease loss of revenue.
Both teams have been persistently complaining on the prevailing gate collection squeeze whenever they make use of the stadium.
The teams have also been avoiding the use of the stadium to stabilize their revenue collection.
However, safety considerations and space availability are some of the strong reasons the teams have in most cases been defeated in their bids to avoid the stadium.
The only clubs that have submitted their proposed home venues are Mtibwa Sugar
(Manungu), Azam (Chamazi), Ruvu Shooting Stars (Mlandizi), Coastal Union (Mkwakwani), Toto Africa (CCM Kirumba), Oljoro JKT (Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium), Police Tanzania (Jamhuri, Dodoma) and Kaitaba for Kagera Sugar.
Clubs yet to disclose their bases include Moro United, Villa Squad, JKT Ruvu and African Lyon.
Teams have been advised to declare their home venues before getting approval by the TFF technical directorate.
The Uhuru Stadium that used to be a venue for most of the Dar es Salaam based teams has been ruled out of use at least for the first half of the season.
The stadium is undergoing refurbishment ahead of the celebrations to mark 50 years of Independence on December 9.
Most of the Dar es Salaam based top flight sides were also caught in the same problem last season as they were compelled to shift their bases upcountry.
