Spanish goalkeeper Manuel Almunia, who has become manager Arsene Wenger’s first choice following Lehmann’s disastrous early-season form, is still recovering from a thumb injury.

Wenger told Sky Sports News: “Almunia is not completely ready to play tomorrow. He’s getting there. He’s very close now.”

After missing the 4-0 defeat by Manchester United that saw them eliminated from the FA Cup, the Gunners are boosted by the return of full-backs Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy. Midfielder Mathieu Flamini and striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who has scored 12 goals in his last 10 games, are also passed fit to play.

Francesc Fabregas could be a doubt, however, after he appeared to be limping in training.

Wenger vowed that his team would put the result at Old Trafford behind them, saying: “We’ll focus on our game. It’s a big game. It was a bit quiet following our disappointing result.

“We’ll continue to be guided by the way we want to play the game and the way we want to play football.

“More than have a reaction we want to play football like we can play it and this is a good opportunity to do that.”

I have been involved with sports in Tanzania as a Volleyball Coach for many years—and was a Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) leader. I studied sports management at Leipzig University in Germany and understand the science behind sports. That led me to work as a football pundit, with the BBC ( Swahili service) in London. That experience and exposure took me to covering the 2010, World Cup in South Africa. This provided me with a great insight into international level football commentary and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics.I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, France, Kenya etc, and visited almost all of the key football stadiums across United Kingdom, and Europe.
