Athletes to camp for U-20 regional event

AT secretary general Suleiman Nyambui

Athletics Tanzania (AT) and the Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) are jointly planning to prepare athletes who would feature for Tanzania in the under-20 regional championship next year.

AT secretary general Suleiman Nyambui said there is an urgent need to set up a camp for local athletes ahead of the East and central African championship set for April in Dar es Salaam.

While waiting for the plans to establish the camp, those Dar es Salaam based athletes would be attending practice sessions.

The event will be used as a stage for preparation of the Commonwealth Games in India and world youth athletics championship to be held in Canada.

Nyambui said his association has communicated with regional athletic committees to organise events for AT technical committee to pick athletes for the camp.

In a related development Nyambui said the senior regional athletics championship which was previously scheduled to be held in Kenya in April, has been pushed back to July.
