27 drivers ready for Tanga’s National Rally Championship

Twenty seven drivers are expected to compete in the second National Rally Championship (NRC) which will be held from Friday to Sunday in Tanga.

Zig- Zag official, Amit Asher whose firm organised the event, said there would be drivers from Zanzibar, Kenya and Uganda and added that their target was to boost the game`s status in the country.

“It is a giant two-day rally which will cover 284 kilometers. We hope the event would promote motor rallying in Tanzania by encouraging many youths to be involved“ Amit said.

However, Amit said three Kenyan drivers have already confirmed to compete. He named them as Azar Anwar, Anwar Pandya and Asad Anwar.

He urged drivers to turn up in larger numbers to contest in the event saying the registration`s deadline was May 28.
The first, second and third winners will be awarded trophies and medals.

I have been involved with sports in Tanzania as a Volleyball Coach for many years—and was a Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) leader. I studied sports management at Leipzig University in Germany and understand the science behind sports. That led me to work as a football pundit, with the BBC ( Swahili service) in London. That experience and exposure took me to covering the 2010, World Cup in South Africa. This provided me with a great insight into international level football commentary and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics.I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, France, Kenya etc, and visited almost all of the key football stadiums across United Kingdom, and Europe.
