ZANTEL will sponsor Zanzibar Premier League which is set to kick off on Saturday to the tune of 120m/-.
The Zanzibar Football Association (ZFA) official, Maulid Hamad Maulid, said yesterday that the amount would be used to pay transport for teams, players allowances and winners` prizes.
The mobile firm company would also pay for the administration costs.
He said 20m/- would be used on prizes while 10m/- would be given to ZFA as administration cost.
Maulid said each of the 12 competing teams would also be given a set of jerseys.
He said the launch of the league would be held on March 9 with a special match pitting Miembeni and Malindi at Amaan Stadium.
Some of the teams which will compete in the league are KMKM, Malindi, Mwenge, Jamhuri, Mundu, Chipukizi, Miembeni, Duma, FFC, Police and JKU.
Duma and FFC will meet in the league`s opening match at Gombani Pemba while Police and JKU will also lock horns at the Amaan Stadium.
