Yanga To Quarter Final………

Defending champions Young Africans (Yanga) proved that they are a hard nut to crack when they hit APR of Rwanda 2-0 in a Kagame Cup match at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

The Dar es Salaam outfit started the game at a low pace as they studied the opponents’ playing pattern. The Rwandese side made a number of runs but Yanga defence was keen to clear the dangers.

It took Yanga 22 minutes to score the first goal when Said Bahanuzi connected home a cross from Hamis Kiiza.

The goal boosted the morale of the players with Bahanuzi and Kiiza frequently disturbing the APR defence. It was Bahanuzi again who slotted the second goal in 67th minute.

Yanga qualified for the quarter final after finishing second in Group C, with APR third in the listing led by Atletico.

Yanga shall take on a team from Group B which comprises Azam, Mafunzo and Tusker on Monday in its quarter final match.

Yanga coach Tom Saintfiet said he was satisfied with the way his team played. Mainland champions Simba will today play Vita Club of Congo DR while Azam FC meet Kenyan champion club Tusker FC.

I have been involved with sports in Tanzania as a Volleyball Coach for many years—and was a Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) leader. I studied sports management at Leipzig University in Germany and understand the science behind sports. That led me to work as a football pundit, with the BBC ( Swahili service) in London. That experience and exposure took me to covering the 2010, World Cup in South Africa. This provided me with a great insight into international level football commentary and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics.I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, France, Kenya etc, and visited almost all of the key football stadiums across United Kingdom, and Europe.
