The two women at the centre of claims about Wayne Rooney’s private life have issued public apologies to Coleen
Allegations that the England striker slept with two prostitutes while his wife was pregnant were published in several newspapers last weekend, sparking frenzied speculation about the future of his marriage.
Jenny Thompson and Helen Wood, the two women involved in the claims, have now used newspaper interviews to apologise for their roles in the scandal.
Ms Thompson, 21, told the News of the World she has “so much sympathy” for Coleen.
She added: “I am very sorry for my part in this. What they do now is up to them.”
The tearful 23-year-old added: “I’m so sorry for all the hurt that you’ve been put through. It was a mistake. I can’t apologise enough. I’m sorry.”
Wayne and Coleen issued a statement on Friday asking for privacy as they attempt to deal with any issues in their marriage against what they described as a “backdrop of so many inaccurate and intrusive stories”.
