Van Persie signs new Arsenal deal

Forward Van Persie has pledged his future to Arsenal

Robin van Persie has signed a new long-term contract at Arsenal.

The Dutch striker, 25, was the Gunners’ leading scorer last season, with 20 goals from 44 appearances, and the deal is reportedly worth £80,000 a week.

Van Persie, who arrived from Feyenoord in 2004, said: “I have been at the club for five years now and there really is a great feeling here at Arsenal.

“We have a top-class manager, a squad full of superb young players and brilliant supporters.”

Van Persie added: “Arsenal have a very bright future and I want to be part of it.”

Arsenal have not revealed the length of Van Persie’s contract, but he hinted he wanted to play the rest of his top-class career at the Emirates.

“My heart is with Arsenal and I just can’t picture myself in a different shirt,” he said.

“I just can’t see it now because I love this club so much. If you look at the last five years, look at the steps I have made every season, if you look at the support the boss and the whole club gave me, the fans gave me, my team-mates gave me – this is the right decision.”

I have been involved with sports in Tanzania as a Volleyball Coach for many years—and was a Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) leader. I studied sports management at Leipzig University in Germany and understand the science behind sports. That led me to work as a football pundit, with the BBC ( Swahili service) in London. That experience and exposure took me to covering the 2010, World Cup in South Africa. This provided me with a great insight into international level football commentary and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics.I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, France, Kenya etc, and visited almost all of the key football stadiums across United Kingdom, and Europe.
