TAVA hunts for sponsors

Tanzania Volleyball Association, TAVA, is urgently in need of sponsorship to stage the annual East and Central African championships scheduled for Moshi in August.

The body’s chairman Augustine Agapa said teams from seven countries have confirmed to compete in the event. He named the teams as from Zanzibar, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda, besides the hosts Mainland.

Agapa said the cost to run a successful championships has been estimated at 10m/=. Participating country can send unlimited number of teams while Kenya have already declared to field 13 teams, three each  for Rwanda and Burundi and  two for Uganda.

The TAVA chairman said a call is made for the teams from the host nation to register and then confirm their participation ahead of the event to facilitate smooth organisation.

He said there is a need for the host nation to field as many teams as possible to increase chances of winning the title. Tanzania Prisons women side are reigning champions while Kenya Commercial Bank’s team are title holders for men.

Apart from calling teams to register for the tourney, Agapa also requested the teams to embark on effective practice session to mould winning outfits.

“As a host nation we need to field strong and competitive teams to win all titles,” said Agapa.
