Nyerere volleyball championship will be held in Tanga for four days beginning on October 10, the secretary general of the Tanzania Volleyball Association, TAVA, George John confirmed yesterday.
Mkwakwani Stadium is the venue selected top host the championship that is being staged to honour the founder President of Tanzania, Julius Kambarage Nyerere who died ten years ago.
John named the gender balanced competing teams lined up for the tourney as Jeshi Stars, Prisons, JKT, Manzese Roman and Mzinga.
The TAVA official made a call for other teams to register and compete in the championship as the door is still open.
Apart from requesting the local teams, John also said letters of invitations have also been dispatched to other foreign sides to compete in the annual event.
He said invitation has been extended to Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. Some of the foreign teams which he declined to name have expressed their intention to join the fray in the prestigious tourney.
Interested teams have been advised to arrive at least a week before the event takes off. Prizes and other awards would be announced just before the tourney starts.
Meanwhile, TAVA is expecting to announce players of the national team by next week. Players have been selected on the basis of their performance during the just ended East African championship in Moshi.
The number of players making the national team would be 30 half of each to cater for either gender.
