Tanzania Table Tennis Association (TTTA), in conjunction with the Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC), has organized a one week ping pong coaches training course that will start on Monday in Dar es Salaam.
According to national team tennis coach Ramadhan Othman, the level one course will include coaching, education and training camp for participants and all TTTA recognized coaches from Mainland and Zanzibar Islands have been invited.
He said the course has been organized by TTTA in conjunction with TOC and the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) through the Olympic Solidarity has sent a course facilitator, Base Kaffo from Nigeria.
“The course will start next week at Kisutu Primary School in the city and we expect that all TTTA recognized coaches in the country will attend at the weeklong course,” said Othman.
He said the course will be an eye opener to local coaches as they will learn new table tennis techniques.
He described the course as challenging and beneficial, saying it needs more commitment he said for participants to receive the ITTF Level 1 Certificate.
ITTF Level 1 is the first level officially recognized by ITTF and has the following requirements:
• Attendance at 24 hour course conducted by an ITTF approved Course Conductor
• 10 minute Coaching Practical presentation during the course. A ‘PASS’ is required to be eligible for ITTF Level 1
• After the course, 30 hours coaching practice must be completed. This coaching practice should be predominantly group coaching benefiting the table tennis community or junior or school groups.
• From the 30 hours coaching practice, 5 hours must be supervised by the ITTF Course Conductor or a person appointed by the ITTF Course Conductor.
This supervisor evaluates each coach using the ‘Confidential Coaching Report’ and this must be approved by the ITTF Course Conductor, who provides the certificates if all requirements are met.
“It’s a very challenging course and I am asking all those who will attend to be more committed,” he said
Othman said the country will benefit a lot from the course as it will have many Level One qualified coaches who will help to improve the game in all parts of the country and the Island of Zanzibar.
