Mainland’s defending champions Simba play Azan FC in a tough Premier League soccer match at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam this afternoon.
A win will make Simba return in the pilot seat with 30 points after being dethroned by their archrivals Yanga recently.
Yanga hit underdogs AFC 6-0 to lead the 12-team league with 28 points. Azam FC which is being trained by British coach Hall Stewart will be hell-bent to avoid another defeat by the team trained by Zambian Patrick Phiri, which hit them 2-1 in the first round in a game played at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga last year.
Ibrahim Shikanda, captain of Azam FC said that they had prepared well to stun Simba. “Simba are good but this time we have prepared well to resist them,” he added. Simba recently won the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar.
Azam are currently placed fifth with 20 points out of 12 matches. They were in the third place before losing at the hands of Kagera Sugar recently. Juma Jabu, a Simba player, said that they will take the match as a final considering that Azam was formed by capable players who cannot be underated.
Simba will on Wednesday travel to Comoro to play against Elan de Mitsoudje in the first leg of the African Champions League preliminary round.
