Premier League – Arsenal shade win over Liverpool

Arsenal moved right back into the title race after a 1-0 Premier League win over Liverpool at the Emirates.

Abou Diaby‘s 72nd-minute header was enough to settle a tight game that snapped two contrasting runs of form: it was Arsenal’s first win in four Premier League games and Liverpool‘s first defeat in eight.

Liverpool almost snatched a late equaliser when substitute Ryan Babel had a vicious drive tipped on to the bar by Manuel Almunia and there was a shade of controversy as, deep into injury-time, Cesc Fabregas handled Steven Gerrard‘s free-kick while standing in the wall right on the edge of the box.

Arsenal would have argued that the free-kick should not have been given as it was a soft decision from referee Howard Webb to adjudge Dirk Kuyt to have been checked five yards from the D, but Liverpool were furious at the final whistle that followed seconds later.

The Gunners move eight points clear of the Reds after the win, although the visitors stay fourth after Tottenham lost to Wolves.

For the last 20 years I have been working as a football pundit. This experience has provided me with a very useful insight into football and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics and I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany .....
