Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) disciplinary members are expected to meet on Monday to discuss on the fate of athlete Fabian Joseph who absconded from the camp in Kibaha, TOC secretary general Filbert Bayi said yesterday.
TOC in conjunction with Athletics Tanzania (AT) early this year organised a camp in Kibaha for four athletes to prepare for the London Games.
Fabian is expected to seek Olympic qualifying time at the coming Czech Marathon which is slated for May 13.
He was supposed to join the Kibaha camp last Sunday but up to now he has not reported.
This has disappointed TOC officials and according to Bayi, Joseph did not communicate his whereabouts anyone which heralds lack of discipline.
“Joseph n was supposed to join the camp last Sunday but up to now he has neither reported nor communicated to any TOC official or AT of his whereabouts, the committee is meeting on Monday to discuss him”, he said.
Bayi said Joseph left the camp with his friends to participate at the Malaria fight marathon. All of his friends have reported back.
He said TOC and AT officials on many occasions have tried to contact him through his cell phones without response.
Bayi also said the athletics camp at Kibaha is going well and hopes that athletes will perform well at the London Games.
He named athletes preparing for the Games at the camp as Zakia Mrisho, Samson Ramadhan and Dickson Marwa while Mrisho and Ramadhan have already qualified.
The country will be represented by boxers and other athletes. However, boxing participation will depend on qualifier events in Morocco
