Harambee Stars head coach Jacob `Ghost` Mulee has criticized Taifa Stars for fielding averaged players in their CAF African Nations Championship match in Kenya last weekend.
The hosts won 1-0 in the tournament`s preliminary round, first leg match played at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on Saturday.
Mulee said through a telephone call from Nairobi yesterday that most of the players, who were selected by Coach Marcio Maximo to form the team, were too olde to dance with the tune of modern football.
“If he will continue using some of the players I saw on Saturday, Tanzania will not qualify,“ Mulee said.
“I do not understand why he came with old players while Tanzania has a lot of young talented players who if used, can make you qualify,“ he added.
“I was very surprised to see your coach coming with old players who will not play for Taifa Stars for long. Some of them do not even perform well for their clubs, “Mulee said.
He claimed his team could win by a larger margin if his players were self confident and determined.
The coach said Harambee Stars were supposed to win by a larger margin but the luck was not theirs.
Mulee who also trains Tusker said the older players in his squad were aged 23 years while the remaining were between 18 to 20.
The coach was expected to leave for Djibouti last night for a short coaching course.
The return leg match will be played in Dar es Salaam in the next two weeks.
Taifa Stars are set to play two international friendlies to prepare for the return leg match.
They will play first trial against hosts Yemen in Sanaa on Friday while the next trial will be played in Dar es Salaam with a country yet to be known.
