Haruna Niyonzima’s goal earned Yanga a 1-0 win over Azam FC in a hotly contested Mainland Premier League match staged at the National stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
The Rwandan midfielder scored the goal in the 32nd minute to make Yanga extend their lead with 36 points.
Chaos erupted after the end of the game when Azam FC players invaded referee Hashim Abdallah claiming that he favoured Yanga. Police officers saved the referee by dispersing the angry players.
The team’s coach Stewart Hall also said after the game that the referee gave biased decision.
This is the second time Yanga are beating Azam FC. They won 2-0 in the first leg last year.
Azam FC who tried to equalize through their dangerous John Bocco and Kipre Tchetche, remain second with 31 points.
Meanwhile, JKT Mgambo defeated JKT Ruvu 1-0 in another match played at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga while Prisons and Polisi Moro forced a barren draw.
