Dar saves the day

Dar es Salaam region has saved the day for Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) from being embarrassed by fielding six teams in the national league championship slated for next Wednesday at Mkwakwani stadium, Tanga.

The move follows the failure by some regions to confirm or bring teams for the tournament, warranting TBF to call for more teams from Dar es Salaam who responded by registering more than 14 men`s teams.

The league regulations however, demand that every region must be represented by only one team and that must be the region`s men`s champions.

Following the situation, Dar es Salaam has been allowed to field six men`s teams, four being those that performed well in last year`s national league and two that did well in the region`s league.

It`s true, the regulations want every region to come up with a team, but since we are running short of time and the response is rather poor probably because of financial constraints, we have allowed Dar es Salaam to come with additional teams,“ Cheyo said.

The teams are JKT, Savio, Vijana, Oilers, ABC and Magereza who are standing in for Chang`ombe Boys who are serving a ban following their fans unruly behaviour in one of the matches.

Women`s teams whose encounter will be open are Don Bosco Queens, Jeshi Stars, Cargo Ladies and JKT Stars.

For the last 20 years I have been working as a football pundit. This experience has provided me with a very useful insight into football and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics and I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany .....
