Tanzania`s Olympic-bound athletes have successfully secured a training boost in England ahead of the Games next month.
The athletes have been accepted to board at Bradford College which has already expressed its readiness to host the Tanzanian team.
The College has pledged to offer top and memorable hospitality during the entire duration of the team’s camping and use the state of the art facilities.
Tanzania’s Olympic squad is expected to board a London Heathrow-bound flight on July 8 and would straight head to the Bradford College where they will attend pre-Games training camp.
In an email response Bradford College Principal, Michele Sutton said his college is ready to host the Dar team.
He also said the visit by Tanzania team at the college will strengthen the two countries relationship.
He said the college will also host Vietnam team preparing for the Games as well.
“The 2012 training camps have given us a fantastic opportunity to strengthen our links with international partners. We have been working with the Tanzania and Vietnamese Governments and partner colleges on developing their vocational training programmers.
He also said Tanzanian Olympic Committee (TOC) secretary general, Filbert Bayi, visited the city last year and was delighted with the West Yorkshire’s existing and planned facilities.
Sutton also said the pre-Games Camp at the school are just as important for the college. The college has outstanding new physiotherapy facilities which will be the perfect setting for their students to assist Olympians with their final preparations.
“College sports, catering, diet and nutrition, tourism and arts students will all play their part in ensuring these world-class athletes feel part of the city, giving them a true Bradford welcome and first class support. The college will continue to promote the city on a world stage, developing business links across the globe”, he said.
According to Bayi the Tanzania delegation of 12 people include four runners who will be accompanied by one coach, two simmers with a coach , one boxer and coach ,TOC administrator and Chief de Mission.
He also revealed that the government will inject 13m/- to the team to buy sports equipment for the Games and $27.450 for allowances to the delegation.
In another development, Chief de Mission Hassani Jalafu said Tanzania Sports Writers (TASWA) president Juma Pinto will accompany the team.
