The Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) has released a provisional national team squad comprising 37 boxers in preparations for international bouts.
BFT secretary general Makore Mashaga said the body’s technical team and national team head coach Remy Ngabo selected the boxers at the just ended national championship.
He said some of the international bouts include the October 20 friendly bout against Zambian team to be held at the National Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
He said the team is made up of 17 senior, 15 young and five women boxers and is expected to open camp soon.
Mashaga said the junior squad will be trimmed to nine boxers to face the Zambians.
He named the senior boxers and their respective weight categories as Said Hofu and Hafidh Bamtula (49 kgs), Sunday Elias and Boniface Mlingwa (52 kgs), while 56 kgs category has Emilian Patrick and Undule Langson.
The BFT official named other boxers as Iddi Pialali and Hamisi Kitenge (60), Victor Njaiti and Hashim Simon (64 kgs), Selemani Kidunda and Mohamed Chibumbui (69 kgs). Joseph Martine is the only boxers in 75kgs category.
The other boxers selected are Leonard Machichi and Amos Godwin (81 kgs), 91 kgs category is Haruna Swanga while Macmillan Patrick is in the category of over 91kgs.
The junior boxers according to Mashaga include Maulid Athumani and Joseph Meshak (49 kgs), Hamad Furahisha and James Staha (52 kgs) and the 56 kgs are Frank Nicholas,Twalibu Athuman and Cosmas John.
He named other junior boxers as 60 kgs Ismail Isack, 64 kgs Badi Mumbaba and Seleman Bamtula, 69 kgs are Omari Jongo, Gulash Rashid and Yohana Mathayo while Shaban Ngaoneka and Alex Sita are boxers for 75 and 81 kgs, respectively.
Women team has Ester Kimbe and Mariam Nyerere in 47 kgs, Martha George and Irene Kimaro for 49 kgs while Mariam Andrew is for 52 kgs.
