Deputy Minister for Information, Culture and Sports Joel Bendera and IPP Executive Chairman Reginald Mengi will on Sunday flag off Coca-Cola Dar es Salaam half marathon and 5km fun run, respectively.
Coca-Cola Tanzania Senior Franchise Brand Manager for East and Central Africa Caroline Mbaga said yesterday that the races would start at 6.30am at Biafra grounds in Kinondoni.
Caroline told reporters yesterday that the race would be open for everyone and that more than 4,000 athletes had already registered.
“We appeal to the runners who have already registered to collect their numbers on Saturday (tomorrow) at Biafra grounds from 9am,“ she added.
She said the winners of the half marathon would pocket 1m/- each while second and third winners will earn 750,000/- and 500,000/- respectively. Fourth finishers would take home 300,000/- and fifth 250,000/-.
The half marathon would start at Biafra grounds to National Stadium in Temeke before ending at the starting point.
The fun race would also start at the same point via Stanbic Bank near Salender Bridge and back to Biafra.
The two races will be used to celebrate the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay which will arrive in Dar es Salaam on April 12 from Buneos Aires, Argentina.
The torch race will be held on April 13 and would start at Tazara Railways Station and end at Leaders Club in Kinondoni.
