The England midfielder played the full 90 minutes, helping the home side post their first victory of the 2008 Major League Soccer season.

Beckham ran on to a pass from Landon Donovan in the eighth minute and sent a low right-foot shot past goalkeeper Joe Cannon for the opening goal at the Home Depot Center.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid player was on target in a SuperLiga clash against DC United last season but his goal against San Jose was his first in league play.

Beckham’s lofted ball over the San Jose defence after 36 minutes set up United States international Donovan, who lobbed the advancing Cannon from the edge of the penalty area.

“It’s always nice to get a goal and it was great to help the team get the win,” Beckham said. “It was a good team performance and it was important to bounce back from the weekend.”

The Galaxy were thrashed 4-0 away by the Colorado Rapids in their season opener last weekend but they were too strong for expansion side San Jose.

Los Angeles next face Toronto FC at home on April 13th.

I have been involved with sports in Tanzania as a Volleyball Coach for many years—and was a Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) leader. I studied sports management at Leipzig University in Germany and understand the science behind sports. That led me to work as a football pundit, with the BBC ( Swahili service) in London. That experience and exposure took me to covering the 2010, World Cup in South Africa. This provided me with a great insight into international level football commentary and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics.I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, France, Kenya etc, and visited almost all of the key football stadiums across United Kingdom, and Europe.
