Holders Azam FC produced a rare resurgence to beat Moro United by 3-2 goals in the semifinal tie of the ongoing Uhai Cup tournament played at Karume Memorial Stadium in Dar es Salaam, yesterday.
The victory has propelled the ice-cream makers into Sunday’s final to play against Simba who beat Mtibwa Sugar by a lone goal in another semi final played later in the evening yesterday.
Moro United have to play against the semifinal loser of the yesterday’s match to fight for the third place classification playoff versus Mtibwa Sugar.
United’s striker Suleiman Rashid broke the deadlock after 27 minutes that lasted up to the half time mark.
On resumption United’s striker Shaban Mussa increased the tally after Azam were subjected to intense pressure.
The holder’s fight-back efforts started after 76 minutes when Fred Sino scored through a well taken free kick that deflected into the net after United’s defender failed to clear.
Sino combined well with striking partner Adam Shaaban to score the much needed equalizer a few minutes later to draw level.
While most of the spectators thought the match would end in a 2-2 draw, Joseph Maudi’s made last-gasp efforts that paid off to kill the game much to the disappointment of the United players who looked bored and tired. The winning team will be entitled to a cash prize of 1.5 m/- while the runners up has one million shillings to rejoice.
Winner of the classification match would earn half million shillings. The tournament has been supported by Salim Bakhressa Company for the second year running while parting with 35m/-.
