AT confirms athletes` world championship trip

Tanzania International Container Terminal Services, TICTS, has poured 10.4m/= into the Athletics Tanzania coffers to be used for the national team in next month’s world championship in Germany.

TICTS customer service manager Focus Isangwe urged the Tanzania athletes to reciprocate the assistance through excelling in the global event.

He also urged the members of the team to behave well and maintain discipline so as to portray good image to the country and stand as role model to other athletes at home.

AT’s assistant secretary general Julius Msomi appreciated TICTS timely boost and would be inspirational to the athletes in the championships.

Msomi said AT would prudently use the money to facilitate the trip for meeting the cost of return flight tickets, outfit of the athletes, medical insurance and their upkeep during the event.

He said the team’s departure date is set for Saturday instead of Thursday as earlier planned owing to travelling reservations.

The team would camp in Germany for two weeks ahead of the championship. AT secretary general Suleiman Nyambui is the head of the delegation.

He named the team members and their respective running distances as Dickson Marwa, Ezekier Jafari and Marko Joseph who are lined up for the 5,000 metres.

Others are Zakia Mohamed and Fabian Joseph who are to compete for the 10.000 metres as Christopher Isengwe, Rusian Ombo, Faustine Baha, Andrew Silvian and Getul Bayo will compete in marathon event

TICTS has ended AT’s quest for facilitating the Germany bound trip. The firm had earlier in the year declared a $50,000 annual sponsorship package for the athletics body.

This experience has provided me with a very useful insight into football and the opportunity to carry out extensive research into the game including its players, the stadiums, the rules and tactics and I have also been grateful to meet a wide range of people connected to football in the UK, Tanzania, Germany .....
